4th Congress of Neurosurgeons of Uzbekistan
From September 4–6, 2025, the city of Khiva, Uzbekistan, hosted a landmark event — the 4th Congress of Neurosurgeons of Uzbekistan. This significant gathering brought together leading specialists in neurosurgery, researchers, and practicing physicians to discuss the latest advancements, innovative technologies, and clinical practices in this rapidly evolving field of medicine. The Congress featured:
- Keynote Speeches: Renowned experts from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, the USA, Germany, Japan, Turkey, China, the UK, South Korea, and Poland shared their research and experience in neurosurgery, including new treatment methods and surgical techniques.
- Workshops, Seminars, and Symposiums: Practical sessions focused on spinal endoscopy and radiosurgery, providing participants with hands-on experience and knowledge in modern neurosurgical interventions and neuromonitoring.
- Scientific Sessions, Including a Session for Young Neurosurgeons: Presentations of the latest research and clinical trials that have the potential to change approaches to treating neurological diseases.
- Technology Exhibition: Attendees had the opportunity to explore the latest advances in medical equipment and technologies used in neurosurgery.
This Congress served as a grand forum for neurosurgeons from around the world, with the goal of improving patient outcomes by advancing neurosurgical care and professional education.
The Kazakhstani delegation was led by Professor Serik Akshulakov, Chairman of the Board of the National Center for Neurosurgery, President of the Kazakh Association of Neurosurgeons, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, State Prize Laureate in Science and Technology, and «Hero of Labor of Kazakhstan» — a living legend in both national and global neurosurgery.
Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University (KazNMU) was well represented at the Congress as part of the Kazakhstani delegation by the Departments of Neurosurgery and Neurology, including:

One of the key moments of the Congress was the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Center for Neurosurgery of the Republic of Kazakhstan — the leading neurosurgical clinic in Central Asia meeting all international standards — and the Scientific Center for Neurosurgery under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
It is also worth noting that in the young neurosurgeons’ competition, the honorable 2nd place was awarded to Tursynbekov T., a 4th-year resident at the National Center for Neurosurgery (Astana), a protégé of E.T. Makhambetov, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, and Chief Freelance Neurosurgeon of the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan.

The Congress of Neurosurgeons was an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas, establish new connections, and discuss pressing issues facing the medical community.
