International Doctor’s Day
Every year on the first Monday of October, many countries celebrate the International Doctor’s Day, which is considered a day of solidarity and active actions of doctors around the world. After all, the main goal of a doctor of any nationality is to improve and preserve the health of his patients.
Holiday was initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders. It is this independent, non-governmental organization Doctors Without Borders that fully implements the tasks of today. Its employees do not make distinctions in the national or religious affiliation of people, but help all those in need, by providing assistance to victims of natural disasters, various epidemics, social and armed conflicts.
In addition, the profession of a doctor is one of the oldest on the planet. Having appeared at the dawn of humanity itself, it was always appreciated, respected and revered. The experience gained by healers was recorded on paper for future generations. First doctors used medicinal herbs, ointments, minerals and various rituals. Eventually a scientific approach was adopted and healthcare advanced far ahead. People have learned to overcome such terrible diseases as cholera, smallpox, tuberculosis, anthrax… All this made it possible to significantly increase the average life expectancy of a person and alleviate the suffering of many people.
Modern doctors rely in their work on a huge amount of knowledge and enormous experience of predecessors. Therefore, a doctor today is a very difficult and responsible job, because in his hands are human lives, the most valuable thing in the world. This profession is very popular, as well. Any modern person has been to a doctor at least once in his life and it is difficult to imagine the daily life without them.
Doctors themselves and all health care workers celebrate their professional holiday – the International Day of the Doctor – with various festive and educational events. On this day, it is customary to hold various seminars, informative lectures about the medical profession, exhibitions and presentations. Many medical awards for being best in different areas of healthcare are also given out on this day.
There are about 80,000 doctors in Kazakhstan today. On behalf of the President of the country, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, a campaign is being systematically carried out to raise the status of a medical worker, wages are rising, and more and more state educational grants are being allocated. It is also planned to adopt a standard for the insurance of doctors’ professional activities, which will help reduce the shortage of medical specialists.
Congratulations to all the doctors of the world, as well as future doctors who are now on their journey of learning this difficult, but extremely important craft!
