Academic Mobility of the Department of Neurology
In April 2025, the faculty of the Department of Neurology at Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University successfully completed the scheduled academic mobility activities for the year, in collaboration with partner universities under the “Academic Mobility of Teaching Staff” program.
Associate Professor, Candidate of Medical Sciences (PhD), Roza Baltabayevna Nurzhanova was sent on assignment to Shymkent, to the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy, within the framework of the academic mobility program. There, she conducted practical training sessions and delivered lectures for residents on the subject of “Adult and Pediatric Neurology.” All lectures and practical sessions were delivered in full. The residents of the Department of Neurology, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, and Neurosurgery at SKMA showed genuine interest, enthusiasm, and motivation for further development in clinical and academic knowledge. The high pedagogical skills and extensive clinical experience of Associate Professor Nurzhanova will undoubtedly contribute positively to the development of future neurologists.
At nearly the same time, within the framework of international academic cooperation, Associate Professors, PhDs Bakytgul Rakhimbekovna Nurmukhambetova and Svetlana Gabdulvalievna Safina from the Department of Neurology at Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University visited Samarkand State Medical University (Uzbekistan) on a working visit. The curriculum plan for lectures and practical sessions, mutually approved by both institutions, covered the subjects: “General Neurology,” “Special Neurology,” and “Perinatal Pathology and Acquired Neurological Diseases in Children” for 1st- and 2nd-year master’s students and clinical residents. The program was delivered in full and at a high professional level. The course mainly consisted of lectures but also included presentations, discussions, practical assignments in the form of tests, and supplementary materials.
During the visit, the professors conducted a master class on electromyography and held training sessions for master’s students, clinical residents of the neurology department, young researchers, practicing physicians, pediatric neurologists, and functional diagnostics specialists at SamSMU. Together with their colleagues, they discussed the prospects for joint scientific projects and further academic mobility.
Such initiatives foster the exchange of experience and knowledge among neurologists, enhance professional awareness and qualifications, and strengthen ties between medical communities of different countries.
This visit marked an important step in strengthening scientific and educational cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
From April 20 to April 26, 2025, another academic mobility event took place in Kazan, at Kazan State Medical University, for interns and clinical residents of the first and second years. Associate Professor, PhD, E.B. Atantaeva conducted seminars and lectures in an interactive format, using elements of TBL (Team-Based Learning), PBL (Problem-Based Learning), CBL (Case-Based Learning), brainstorming, quests, and more. The participants actively engaged in this format and noted the high effectiveness and clinical relevance of such an approach. The audience included not only interns and residents but also practicing physicians. Clinical cases were discussed, along with the latest diagnostic and treatment algorithms and the newest clinical guidelines from the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. Students also participated in patient examinations.
The sessions were held at various clinical sites affiliated with the Department of Neurology of Kazan State Medical University. The Head of the Department, Professor, MD Enver Ibragimovich Bogdanov, and his team extended exceptional warmth and hospitality, providing tours of the clinical bases and patient pathways, especially for stroke patients and their rehabilitation. The well-equipped facilities and the high professionalism and teamwork of the department and clinical staff left a strong impression, reflecting their achievements at an international level.
The “Academic Mobility of Teaching Staff” program provides excellent opportunities for mutual enrichment in both pedagogical and clinical domains, as well as in research collaboration — all aimed at the optimal training of future highly qualified healthcare professionals on a global scale.
