«Mukagali revived in song and verse» – а literary and musical evening honoring the poet’s 95th anniversary
On February 19, 2026, the department of microbiology, virology at Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov hosted a memorable literary and musical evening titled “Mukagali: Revived in Song and Poetry”, dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Kazakh poet Mukagali Makataev.
The event was organized under the guidance of the department’s faculty members and brought together students and professors in an атмосphere of creativity, inspiration, and spiritual unity.
A special vibrancy and emotional depth were added by second-year students of the “Medicine” educational program, who actively prepared and conducted the evening under the careful mentorship of the department. The future doctors demonstrated not only professionalism and dedication to their chosen career, but also spiritual maturity, creativity, and a genuine appreciation for Kazakhstan’s literary heritage.
The main purpose of the evening was to broaden students’ cultural horizons, foster humanistic values, and unlock their creative potential. Such initiatives are especially important in medical education, as the medical profession requires not only strong academic knowledge and clinical skills, but also empathy, moral responsibility, and a high level of emotional intelligence.
Throughout the event, guests had the opportunity to explore the life and literary legacy of Mukagali Makataev. Heartfelt poems were recited by students of the General medicine-1 advisory groups as well as by faculty members of the department — professor K.Mustafina, associate professors N.Taurbayeva, T.Begadilova, A.Igisenova, and assistant professor Z.Khandilla. Their performances created a meaningful atmosphere of intergenerational continuity and deep respect for spiritual values. Musical compositions based on Mukagali’s poetry added warmth, harmony, and sincerity to the evening, enriching it with emotion and inspiration.
The event became a true celebration of poetry, creativity, and national culture, clearly demonstrating that a medical university educates not only highly qualified professionals, but also culturally aware, spiritually developed, and socially responsible individuals.
The evening was organized in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 4 – Quality Education;
SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being;
SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.
In the context of SDG 4, the integration of cultural and humanitarian components into the academic environment contributed to the development of students’ communication skills, cultural competence, and creative thinking.
Regarding SDG 3, the event promoted students’ psychological well-being, helped reduce academic stress, and strengthened their professional motivation—key elements in preparing compassionate and patient-centered healthcare professionals.
Within the framework of SDG 17, the collaborative efforts of faculty and students in organizing the event strengthened the academic community and fostered a culture of partnership within the university.
The honored guest of the evening was Bibigul Seitkhanova, doctor of medical sciences, professor, and head of the department of microbiology, allergology and immunology at South Kazakhstan Medical Academy. The event was also attended by General medicine-1 chief specialist Asem Kanapiyayeva.
Overall, the literary and musical evening carried significant educational and cultural value, contributing to the development of professionally competent and spiritually enriched future healthcare specialists, while aligning with strategic priorities in education and public health.
