Aphasia After Stroke: From Neuroplasticity to Clinical Success
The Department of Nervous Diseases of KazNMU named after. S.D. Asfendiyarov continues its series of educational events for practical healthcare, dedicated to the 95th anniversary of our university.
On November 22, 27 and December 5, educational seminars were held for physicians and residents from Astana, Semey, Almaty, and Aktobe as part of the implementation of the cascade training method for healthcare professionals, in accordance with the Roadmap for improving neurological medical care for the adult population of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The educational seminars titled “Aphasia After Stroke: From Neuroplasticity to Clinical Success” brought together specialists in neurology, speech therapy, neuropsychology, and rehabilitation. The goal of the event was to discuss modern approaches to post-stroke speech recovery and to introduce new knowledge about mechanisms of neuroplasticity and therapeutic possibilities into clinical practice.
Key topics of the seminar:
Participants became acquainted with up-to-date scientific data on how the brain reorganizes after injury and what conditions create the foundation for successful restoration of speech functions. The program addressed the following issues:
- neuroplasticity and its role in the rehabilitation of post-stroke aphasia;
- modern methods of speech-language therapy, including intensive programs, melodic intonation therapy, phonological and semantic approaches;
- non-invasive neuromodulation (TMS, tDCS) as a tool to enhance therapeutic effect;
- digital technologies and telerehabilitation, improving accessibility and consistency of therapy sessions;
- an interdisciplinary approach to patient management.
Practical sessions.
Special interest was sparked by practical demonstrations and clinical case examples. Experts discussed patient-management algorithms for different types of aphasia, analyzed common rehabilitation errors, and evaluated the effectiveness of various therapeutic strategies.
The seminars were conducted by the Head of the Department of Nervous Diseases of the KazNMU named after. S.D. Asfendiyarov, Chief Neurologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Dr. S.T. Turuspekova.
Participants emphasized the high practical value of the material and expressed their readiness to integrate the acquired knowledge into daily clinical practice.
The seminar became an important platform for experience exchange and demonstrated that the combination of fundamental knowledge on neuroplasticity with modern rehabilitation technologies enables achieving real clinical success in patients with post-stroke aphasia.
