November 13, 10-4:00pm
Kazakh Medical University, School of Public Health
Center of Innovation in PH Education and Research, Room #113, Auditorium Building.
Background: This master class is part of a multi-year collaboration between the US National Institutes of Health-funded New York State International Training and Research Program (NYS-ITRP) and the School of Public Health (SPH) at Kazakh National Medical University (KaNMU). This training is part of a series of education and training events designed to strengthen the capacity of the SPH to provide research training, with an emphasis on HIV-related research that addresses the HIV prevention and treatment needs for Kazakhstan. While this class has been developed for students in the epidemiology class, interested KNMU and other faculty are invited to attend.
Objectives: By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
- Cite definitions of the concept of confounding and its practical applications
- Describe the concept of effect measure modification and its practical applications
- Compare and contrast confounding and effect measure modification and its practical applications.
- Describe mixed-methods study design approaches
- Describe the value of mixed-methods research
- Cite the process of conducting mixed-methods research
- Describe how to compute the sample size required to estimate population parameters
- Describe how to calculate sample sizes in various study designs.
