Geriatric Neurology — in the Spotlight
The joint educational program of the Department of Nervous Diseases of Asfendiyarov KazMU and the Department of Nervous Diseases of Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University has concluded, leaving a powerful boost of inspiration and professional growth.
From December 8 to 12, the Department of Nervous Diseases of Asfendiyarov KazNMU, together with the Department of Nervous Diseases of Sechenov First MSMU, successfully conducted an educational seminar within the framework of their joint educational program dedicated to the current issues of modern geriatric neurology. The training-format event was held with the support of the Institute of Additional and Professional Education of Asfendiyarov KazNMU and the Public Health Department of Almaty, highlighting the importance of the topic for the regional healthcare system.
Program Objective
To enhance the competencies of neurologists, geriatricians, and general practitioners in diagnosing, managing, and rehabilitating elderly patients with neurological disorders, as well as to introduce modern, clinically validated approaches into practical healthcare.
The educational program was developed by the Head of the Department of Nervous Diseases of Asfendiyarov KazNMU, Turuspekova S.T., and Professor of the Department of Nervous Diseases of Sechenov First MSMU, Zakharov V.V.

Over 45 academic hours, participants underwent in-depth training on essential aspects of geriatric neurology:
Neurodegenerative diseases in older adults

Vascular neurology in elderly patients
• Prevention and management of stroke

Geriatric syndromes in neurological practice

The seminar was attended by general practitioners, neurologists, geriatricians, residents, and faculty members of the Department of Nervous Diseases of Asfendiyarov KazNMU. Clinical case discussions, interactive sessions, and the analysis of real practical examples provided by Professor Zakharov V.V., a leading expert in geriatric neurology, generated particular interest.
The program format was based on interdepartmental experience exchange, practice-oriented clinical case reviews, and discussion panels. Participants received educational materials, access to lectures, and certificates of completion.
Event Outcomes
The educational seminar became an important platform for discussing modern approaches to managing elderly patients with neurological disorders. The joint program strengthened the collaboration between Asfendiyarov KazNMU and Sechenov First MSMU, contributing to the professional development of specialists and improving the quality of neurological care in geriatric practice.
