II Republican Scientific and Practical Conference with International Participation “Interdisciplinary Neurology in the Era of Digital Transformation: Challenges and Innovative Solutions”
On April 9–10, 2026, Astana brought together leading neurologists, scientists, and clinicians of the country at the II Republican Scientific and Practical Conference dedicated to the transformation of neurology in the context of digital medicine.
The large-scale scientific event was organized by Astana Medical University and the Public Association “Society of Neurologists and Neurorehabilitologists ‘Densaulyk’,” under the leadership of L.E. Yeszhanova, Head of the Department of Neurology at AMU.
The conference became a point of consolidation for the professional community in response to global healthcare challenges. The focus was on the implementation of digital technologies, including artificial intelligence in diagnostics, big data analytics, digital patient monitoring platforms, and the development of personalized medicine.
A significant contribution to the scientific program was made by the Department of Nervous Diseases of Asfendiyarov KazNMU, presenting key reports reflecting current international trends:
- T. Turuspekova, Head of the Department — “Myasthenia Gravis: Modern Therapeutic Strategies”
- S. Nurguzhaev, Professor — “Vascular Cognitive Impairment: Early Intervention Strategies”
- R. Idrissova, Professor — “Key Aspects of Diagnosis and Management of Patients with Neurofibromatosis Type 1 in the Republic of Kazakhstan”
- K. Almakhanova, Associate Professor — “B-cell Therapy in Multiple Sclerosis: The Role of Subcutaneous Anti-CD20 Strategy in Patients with Suboptimal Response”
The presented studies demonstrated the high level of the national neurological school and its readiness to integrate advanced global approaches, including targeted and immunomodulatory therapies.
The practical focus of the conference was reinforced by specialized workshops dedicated to the most complex and socially significant areas—autoimmune and orphan diseases of the nervous system.
The workshop on neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders and myasthenia gravis brought together international experts:
- S. Kasatkin (Vice-Rector for International Relations, Yaroslavl State Medical University, Yaroslavl)
- A. Efstafyeva (Head of the Center for Autoimmune Diseases, Karaganda)
The experts presented modern approaches to diagnostics, immunological stratification, and targeted therapy, and emphasized the role of digital tools in monitoring chronic autoimmune diseases.
A separate workshop was dedicated to spinal muscular atrophy, addressing early detection, neonatal screening, and access to innovative therapies:
- E. Martynova (Morozov Children’s City Clinical Hospital, Moscow)
- A. Tekebayeva (Chief Pediatric Neurologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, UMC, Astana)
S.T. Turuspekova, Chief Freelance Adult Neurologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, also took part in the expert discussion, highlighting the importance of continuity between pediatric and adult neurology in managing patients with orphan diseases.
The workshop “Mastery of a Neurologist: Recognition and Treatment of Hyperkinetic Disorders” was aimed at developing clinical thinking and practical skills:
- K. Taitubayeva, Associate Professor (Department of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, AMU, Astana)
- S. Tautanova (Astana)
The workshop “Sleep Disorders in the 21st Century: International Consensus and Practical Solutions” was conducted by Associate Professor A.S. Kassenova (Director of the Institute of Postgraduate Education, AMU, Astana).
The workshops demonstrated a high level of practical training among specialists and emphasized the importance of implementing modern clinical guidelines into everyday practice.
Following the conference, participants highlighted the need to accelerate the implementation of digital solutions in clinical practice, enhance interdisciplinary collaboration, and expand patient access to innovative diagnostic and treatment methods.
The conference held in Astana confirmed Kazakhstan’s status as an emerging regional center of expertise in neurology and underscored its active role in the global digital transformation of medicine.
