Interdisciplinary Neurology
On November 6–7, 2025, the international scientific and practical conference “Interdisciplinary Neurology” was held in Shymkent. The organizers of the conference were the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy with the support of the Departments of Public Health of the city of Shymkent and the Turkestan Region, as well as the Department of Neurology, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, and Neurosurgery, headed by Professor N.A. Zharkynbekova — Head of the Department and Chief Neurologist of the Turkestan Region.
At the opening ceremony, welcome speeches were delivered by First Vice Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Timur Sultangaziyev, Rector of the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy Zhanna Seitzhanova, Head of the University Clinic Project of SKMA, Professor of the Department of Social Health Insurance and Public Health, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Master of Business Administration Yelzhan Birtanov; President of the International League Against Epilepsy, Director of the Z.P. Solovyov Scientific and Practical Psychoneurological Center of the Moscow Department of Health, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Medical Genetics of the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation Alla Borisovna Gekht; and Chief Freelance Neurologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of the Department of Nervous Diseases of Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, Saule Turuspekova.
The event was attended by leading specialists in neurology from Kazakhstan, the United Kingdom, Russia, the Republic of Sakha, Uzbekistan, and Germany. They discussed key issues in neurogenetics, neurorehabilitation, epileptology, neurophysiology, and related disciplines.
The main goal of the event was to improve medical care and the quality of life of patients through the integration of science and practice. To achieve this goal, neurologists, rehabilitation specialists, rheumatologists, psychologists, geneticists, and other medical professionals gathered to share their expertise.
Issues of pathogenesis, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment of nervous system diseases were discussed during plenary and sectional sessions, as well as at symposia dedicated to neurodegenerative, demyelinating, neuromuscular, autoimmune, vascular, rare (orphan), and other neurological disorders.
The Department of Nervous Diseases of Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University took an active part in the conference. Professor E.S. Nurguzhayev and the Head of the Department, S.T. Turuspekova, participated as speakers and moderators.
President of the Association of Neurologists of Kazakhstan and Professor of the Department, E.S. Nurguzhayev, presented a report titled “Modern Approaches to the Treatment of Lower Back Pain: The Path to Restoring Quality of Life.”
Head of the Department of Nervous Diseases and Chief Neurologist of the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan, S.T. Turuspekova, delivered presentations on “The National Strategy on Alzheimer’s Disease: Global Practices and Challenges for Kazakhstan” and “The Palette of Anxiety Symptoms: How to Help the Patient?”
A master class titled “Post-Stroke Aphasia: From Neuroplasticity to Clinical Success” was also held. The presented reports generated great interest among the audience.
The exchange of experience and knowledge among neurologists within the framework of such conferences undoubtedly contributes to mutual enrichment, increased awareness, and professional development of neurologists and therapeutic specialists across the regions of our country.
