International Cooperation in Neurology: the “Visiting Professor” Program at Bashkir State Medical University
From March 26 to April 2, 2026, the Head of the Department of Nervous Diseases of KazNMU named after S.D. Asfendiyarov, Turuspekova S. T., visited Bashkir State Medical University as part of the international “Visiting Professor” program.
The visit was dedicated to the exchange of advanced knowledge in the field of neurology and the organization of clinical care. The Head of the Department of Nervous Diseases, Turuspekova S.T., delivered a series of lectures for 1st–2nd year students and residents, presenting modern approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of cognitive disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and cerebrovascular pathology. The lectures were accompanied by active discussions, which enabled direct dialogue between specialists and future neurologists.
A significant event of the visit was participation in the plenary session of the IV Eurasian Neurological Congress, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Department of Neurology of BSMU, where current achievements and future prospects for the development of neurological science were presented. The opening of the congress was marked by a welcoming address by the Minister of Health of Bashkortostan, Rakhmatullin A.R.
Special attention was paid to practical visits to the region’s leading medical institutions. At the Republican Clinical Hospital named after G. G. Kuvatov, the Chief Neurologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, S.T. Turuspekova, became acquainted with the work of neurorehabilitation and neurology departments with the functions of a regional vascular center, as well as with the organization of the clinical process and innovative treatment methods used at the leading clinical base of the department.
The Head of the Department of Neurology, Kutlubaev M.A., Head of the Neurorehabilitation Department Voevodin V. A., and Head of the Neurology Department with the functions of a regional vascular center Galiullin T. R. presented the structure and specific features of their units, shared practical experience in patient management, and the implementation of modern treatment technologies. The visit was accompanied by active professional dialogue, discussion of clinical cases, and exchange of experience.
As part of the program, Saule Tleubergenovna, together with Associate Professor of the Department of Neurology Kachemaeva O.V., also visited the International Medical Center named after V. S. Buzaev — the first center of intelligent neurosurgery in Russia, where unique non-invasive procedures using focused ultrasound are applied, opening new horizons for the treatment of complex neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, and others.
At the Republican Medical Genetics Center, a lecture on chronic cerebral ischemia was delivered. During the visit, together with Professor Saifullina E. V., Head of the Neurogenetics направление of the department, and Acting Head of the Neonatal Screening Laboratory of the RMGC Zagitova G.N., a detailed ознакомление with the organization of the center for orphan diseases and modern laboratory technologies took place. A particularly strong impression was made by the system of early diagnosis of hereditary diseases: the center conducts neonatal screening of newborns both under the basic program (5 diseases) and in an expanded format — for 31 nosologies, including spinal muscular atrophy. Biomaterial is collected as early as the second day of life, which allows pathology to be detected at the preclinical stage and therapy to be initiated in a timely manner, significantly improving patient prognosis.
During the visit, substantive discussions were held with faculty members aimed at improving the educational program and research projects. Professor Bakhtiyarova K. Z., a recognized expert in demyelinating diseases, called for joint research on the spectrum of neuromyelitis optica disorders in Bashkortostan and Kazakhstan; Associate Professor Pervushina E. V. — in the fields of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and syringomyelia. With Professor Akhmadeeva L. R. and Associate Professor Mirsaev T. R., areas of research work for student scientific groups were discussed. The discussions also covered teaching methods, the implementation of modern clinical cases, and the development of scientific analytical skills among students and residents. The participants exchanged experience and proposed innovative approaches to education and the development of practical competencies.
The visit took place in an atmosphere of open professional interaction, accompanied by active exchange of opinions, discussion of clinical cases, and prospects for scientific cooperation. Such initiatives contribute to strengthening international academic ties, developing joint research projects, and improving the quality of medical education and clinical practice.
