International Student Scientific Olympiad Held at Asfendiyarov KazNMU
On April 7, 2026, the Department of History of Kazakhstan and Socio-Humanitarian Disciplines of S. D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University held the International Student Scientific Olympiad in an online format on the topic “Social Determinants of Health in the Context of the UN Sustainable Development Goals,” dedicated to the Day of Science Workers of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Olympiad brought together 10 teams from leading medical higher education institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Uzbekistan, serving as an important scientific and educational platform for knowledge exchange in the field of public health and social medicine.
The event aimed to foster students’ research and analytical competencies and to enhance their understanding of the role of social determinants in shaping population health within the global sustainable development agenda.
The program consisted of three competitive stages: a team video presentation, a scientific and analytical round, and a captains’ competition. Throughout the Olympiad, participants demonstrated a high level of theoretical knowledge, strong critical thinking skills in addressing current public health challenges, and the ability to propose well-grounded solutions based on an interdisciplinary approach.
According to the jury’s decision, the winners were determined as follows:
1st place — MedImpact (Asfendiyarov KazNMU);
2nd place — White Coats Team (Astana Medical University), Lucidi Medici (Bashkir State Medical University), Equitas Med (Tashkent Medical University);
3rd place — Shirak (Astana Medical University), Cure Vitae (South Kazakhstan Medical Academy), Alem Med (Asfendiyarov KazNMU).
The winners and prize-winners were awarded diplomas of the respective degrees, while all participants received certificates.
The Olympiad contributed to strengthening international academic cooperation, enhancing students’ research capacity, and increasing their engagement in scientific activities in the field of public health and social medicine.
