Motivational meeting of students of the School of Pharmacy with specialists from the Scientific and Technical Centre for Radiochemistry and Isotope Production of the RSE at the Institute of Nuclear Physics
On 31 October 2025, a motivational meeting was held at the S.D. Asfendiyarov KazNMU between 3rd and 4th year students of the School of Pharmacy and leading specialists from the Scientific and Technical Centre for Radiochemistry and Isotope Production of the RSE at the Institute of Nuclear Physics — Elena Tikhonovna Chakrova and Andrey Nikolaevich Gurin. The event was held as part of the production and pre-diploma internships and was organized with the aim of broadening the professional horizons of students, increasing their interest in modern radiopharmaceuticals, and preparing them for future work in the field of nuclear medicine. It should be noted that the discipline ‘Fundamentals of Radiopharmaceutical Production’ has been successfully introduced at the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology under the guidance of Head G.O. Ustenova.
During the meeting, experts presented modern trends in the development of nuclear medicine, technologies for the development of radioisotopes and radiopharmaceuticals, emphasising the relevance of this industry for healthcare. Particular attention was paid to the latest methods of radiopharmaceutical production, as well as to the discussion of key professional terms and concepts, such as radionuclide generators, radionuclide precursors, and chemical precursors.
The young participants actively showed interest, answering questions from experts and participating in discussions, which demonstrates their high motivation and desire to acquire new knowledge. The event became an important part of the educational process, contributing to the practical application of theoretical knowledge and the formation of professional competencies in the field of radiopharmacy.
Dean of the School of Pharmacy Sakipova Z.B. noted the importance of further cooperation between KazNMU and the Institute of Nuclear Physics, emphasising the prospects for dual education and the integration of modern technologies into the curriculum. The introduction of the discipline ‘Fundamentals of Radiopharmaceutical Production’ and the training of teaching staff to teach this subject testify to the development and improvement of the educational programme and its orientation towards the current requirements of the modern pharmaceutical industry.
Overall, the event contributed to strengthening ties between the educational and scientific-industrial spheres, training qualified specialists and expanding students’ practical knowledge in the field of radiopharmaceuticals, which is an important step in the development of nuclear medicine and pharmaceutical science in Kazakhstan.
In addition, there are plans to develop a new master’s degree programme to train specialists in radiopharmaceuticals and the production of radiopharmaceuticals. As part of this, a round table will be held with the participation of employers, faculty members, the School of Pharmacy’s educational programmes committee, the university’s master’s and doctoral programmes department management, and other interested parties to determine the programme requirements and ensure its relevance and competitiveness.
