Multiple sclerosis is in focus!
From March 12 to 14, 2025, the international conference MS Excellence: Collaborate Today, Transform Tomorrow was held in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. The event focused on the treatment and research of multiple sclerosis (MS) and brought together leading specialists, researchers, and practicing physicians dedicated to addressing MS-related challenges. Participants from various countries, including Slovenia, Montenegro, Hungary, Estonia, Greece, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and others, took part in the conference.
This conference served as an important platform for exchanging knowledge, experiences, and the latest advancements in diagnostics, therapy, and a multidisciplinary approach to MS patient management. Special emphasis was placed on the early initiation of highly effective MS therapy within an induction treatment approach. Key topics also included personalized therapy and biomarkers of disease progression. Participants highlighted the importance of international collaboration in accelerating the transformation of scientific advancements into effective clinical practice.
Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov was represented at the conference by Associate Professor of the Department of Nervous Diseases, PhD Dr. K.K. Almakhanova. During a session dedicated to personalized MS therapy, she actively participated in a professional discussion on the role of neuroimaging and biomarkers in predicting disease progression. The discussion sparked significant interest and underscored the importance of a comprehensive approach to MS diagnosis and treatment.
Additionally, neurologist D.M. Makatova from the Multidisciplinary Regional Clinical Hospital in Kyzylorda and Associate Professor, PhD Dr. A.A. Khamidulla from the Department of Neurology at West Kazakhstan Medical University named after Marat Ospanov also took part in the conference. The colleagues discussed optimizing the management of patients with different forms of MS in Kazakhstan and exchanged experiences with international specialists.
The presence of Kazakhstani specialists at this international scientific forum contributes to the development of professional connections, strengthens collaboration, and facilitates the implementation of advanced global practices in national healthcare and medical education.
