Mysteries of the Brain: Multidisciplinary Forum
On April 17, 2025, the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Mysteries of the Brain: Multidisciplinary Forum” was held in Almaty.
One of the main initiators and organizers of the event was the young yet already prominent public organization “Asian Society Heart and Brain,” led by the brilliant and talented neurologist, PhD in Medicine, A.S. Kudaibergenova. The conference was also co-organized by the Almaty City Emergency Hospital and the Republican Coordinating Center for Stroke Issues.
The forum opened with a welcoming speech by the Director of the Almaty City Emergency Hospital, PhD in Medicine, A.B. Dzhuwashev, who emphasized the growing incidence of strokes among young people—more than 42,000 cases annually, including patients under 50 years of age. Thanks to new approaches and thrombolytic therapy, the hospital has achieved a reduction in stroke mortality to 4.7% over the past year.
The Department of Neurology at Asfendiyarov KazNMU actively participated in the forum. Professor Y.S. Nurguzhaev, President of the Association of Neurologists, delivered a presentation on “Vascular Cognitive Impairment: Early Intervention Strategy.” The Head of the Department of Neurology, Chief Freelance Neurologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, S.T. Turuspekova, addressed the issues and proposed solutions related to the diagnosis and treatment of somatoform disorders. The presentations by faculty members of the Department of Neurology sparked genuine interest and lively discussion among the audience.
Leading neurologists from Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, and the United States took part in the conference. The forum focused on discussing current issues in the management of neurological diseases from a multidisciplinary perspective. Specialists in neurology, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, psychiatry, neurorehabilitation, and other fields participated, highlighting the need to expand interdisciplinary collaboration and the importance of developing cooperation.
