Next-Generation microbiology and virology: the synergy of KazNMU and SMU
From March 2 to 13, 2026, professor, сandidate of medical sciences F.Rakhimzhanovа, head of the department of microbiology at M. Urazalin Semey Medical University, participated in an academic mobility program at the department of microbiology, virology of S.D.Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University.
The purpose of participation was to enhance scientific and pedagogical experience and to develop academic cooperation between the universities.
Within the framework of the program, a 72-hour academic module titled “Private Microbiology, Virology, and Parasitology” was delivered to second-year students of the “Medicine” educational program.
The educational process was structured using modern pedagogical approaches focused on developing clinical thinking and integrating theoretical knowledge with practical skills. The teaching methods included problem-based learning, clinical case analysis (case-study), demonstration and interpretation of laboratory techniques, interactive learning formats, teamwork, and formative assessment tools.
This model ensured a high level of student engagement and led to significant learning outcomes. Students developed competencies in selecting and interpreting laboratory diagnostic methods, enhanced their clinical reasoning in the context of infectious diseases, and strengthened their teamwork and evidence-based decision-making skills.
The implementation of the academic mobility program served as an effective platform for knowledge exchange, improving the quality of education, and strengthening interuniversity cooperation.
The activities carried out within the program align with the priorities of the United Nations and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
SDG 4: Quality Education — implementation of modern educational technologies and improvement of training quality;
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being — strengthening the professional training of future healthcare professionals;
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals — development of academic and scientific collaboration between universities.
The experience gained will be integrated into educational and research activities, contributing to the further development of innovative approaches in medical education and the expansion of international academic partnerships.
