“PAIN: FROM SYMPTOM TO DIAGNOSIS”
On November 13, in Astana, as part of a regional medical conference dedicated to pain syndromes, a professional discussion took place on modern approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of pain. The event saw active participation from specialists from Kostanay, Kokshetau, Petropavlovsk, Pavlodar, Semey, Ust-Kamenogorsk, and Astana. A total of 120 physicians attended the conference, highlighting the strong interest in pain as an interdisciplinary issue.
Opening the event, Laura Erkinkyzy Eszhanova, Head of the Neurology Department at MUA (Astana), emphasized the importance of a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to pain, noting the growing need for modern diagnostic tools and collaboration among specialists of various fields. The conference was organized in a block-based discussion format.
Main Program Blocks
Block 1: “Pain as a Symptom”
Speaker: Laura Erkinkyzy Eszhanova, Head of the Neurology Department, MUA.
The first presentation covered the mechanisms of pain development, clinical manifestations, and common diagnostic errors. Special attention was given to the role of pain as an early marker of neurological diseases and the importance of referring patients in a timely manner.
Block 2: “Pain as Inflammation”
Speaker: Zhanna Beketovna Serikova, Rheumatologist
This presentation explored the inflammatory mechanisms of pain, features of rheumatologic causes of pain syndromes, and modern anti-inflammatory strategies. Participants actively engaged in discussing clinical cases and patient management algorithms.
Block 3: “Pain as a Diagnosis”
Speaker: Yerkin Smagulovich Nurguzhaev, Professor of the Department of Nervous Diseases at Asfendiyarov KazNMU, President of the Neurologists’ Association.
The final part of the conference addressed situations in which pain itself is an independent clinical diagnosis. The speaker presented a classification of chronic pain conditions, modern diagnostic recommendations, and management strategies.
The conference “Pain: From Symptom to Diagnosis” became an important platform for experience exchange and uniting specialists from various regions of Kazakhstan. Participants highlighted the high practical value of the presentations, the relevance of the approaches discussed, and the importance of continuing such interdisciplinary events.
