Post-ECTRIMS 2025 Discussion Platform
On October 18, in Astana, a scientific and practical discussion platform Post-ECTRIMS 2025 was held, dedicated to modern approaches in the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) and the management of demyelinating diseases. The event was opened with welcoming remarks and a presentation by the Main Neurologist of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Head of the Department of Nervous diseases of Asfendiyarov KazNMU, Dr. Saule Turuspekova, who emphasized the importance of scientific collaboration and the implementation of modern international standards in MS diagnostics and treatment. In her speech, Dr. Turuspekova highlighted that the development of induction therapy strategies allows for a significant improvement in patient outcomes and enhances the quality of medical care in Kazakhstan.
Among the speakers was Assistant Professor of the Department of Nervous diseases Dr. K.K. Almakhanova, who presented a scientific overview of current concepts in the diagnosis and treatment of primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS). The event also featured reports and clinical discussions by leading specialists of Kazakhstan. The Chief External Neurologist of Astana, Head of the Center for Autoimmune Diseases, Dr. B.R. Syzdykova, shared her experience in the application of induction therapy for MS and discussed approaches to evaluating treatment effectiveness. Professor T.N. Khaibullin of the Department of Neurology, Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology at Semey Medical University delivered a presentation on the immune mechanisms of demyelination. Dr. N.A. Evstafyeva, Head of the Center for Autoimmune Diseases in Karaganda, spoke about approaches to therapy monitoring and optimization of patient management. Dr. A.M. Kurmantai, PhD, shared her experience in diagnosing and treating demyelinating diseases in children, highlighting the specific features of pediatric cases.
The Chief External Neurologist of Akmola Region, Dr. M.B. Martazanov, Head of the Neurology Department of the Multidisciplinary Regional Hospital in Kokshetau, delivered an overview on modern approaches to family planning in MS patients, emphasizing the importance of patient-physician interaction in choosing safe therapeutic strategies. Professor N.A. Zharkynbekova, Head of the Department of Neurology, Psychiatry and Psychology of SKMMA and Chief External Neurologist of Turkestan Region, together with Professor L.E. Yeszhanova, Head of the Department of Neurology of Astana Medical University, conducted an interactive clinical session, during which participants discussed real-life therapeutic decision-making cases.
The experts presented an analysis of current scientific data, international trends, and national experience in managing patients with various forms of MS and other demyelinating disorders. Participants emphasized the importance of personalized medicine based on a comprehensive assessment of clinical and biomarker data.
