{"id":1067,"date":"2018-04-13T14:32:08","date_gmt":"2018-04-13T08:32:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.kaznmu.kz\/eng\/?p=1067"},"modified":"2018-04-13T14:32:08","modified_gmt":"2018-04-13T08:32:08","slug":"training-of-trainers-epidemiology-basics-for-public-health-faculty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.kaznmu.edu.kz\/eng\/training-of-trainers-epidemiology-basics-for-public-health-faculty\/","title":{"rendered":"Training of Trainers: Epidemiology Basics for Public Health Faculty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the framework of the multi-year collaboration between the US National Institutes of Health-funded New York State International Training and Research Program (NYS-ITRP) and the School of Public Health (SPH) at Kazakh National Medical University (KazNMU) the Training of Trainers introductory course will be conducted for select KNMU School of Public Health faculty and collaborating public health professionals to enhance their skills in teaching a Principles of Epidemiology course.<\/p>\n<p>This training is part of a series of education and training events designed to strengthen the capacity of the SPH to provide research training, with an emphasis on HIV-related research that addresses the HIV prevention and treatment needs for Kazakhstan.\u00a0\u00a0 This training is not designed to be a comprehensive guide on how to teach epidemiology but as a foundational course to start the process of KNMU SPH in its development of epidemiology syllabi and faculty training skills.<\/p>\n<p>The principle instructor is<strong> Michael A. Joseph, PhD, MPH<\/strong>, Associate Professor, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, SUNY Downstate Medical Center. <strong>David Odegaard<\/strong>, MPH, SUNY Downstate Medical Center will provide Training of Training Project Overview and Principles of Adult Learning<\/p>\n<p>Each day will include \u2018teach-back\u2019 sessions with KNMU faculty and other collaborating partners providing practice teaching sessions on select topics in epidemiology.\u00a0 Student-learners will teach back a component of a \u2018core competency\u2019 lesson drawn from an epidemiology curriculum.
