In accordance with the memorandum of cooperation between our universities\u2014S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University (KazNMU) in Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan, and Abu Ali ibn Sino Bukhara State Medical Institute in Bukhara, Republic of Uzbekistan\u2014a faculty academic mobility program was implemented at the Department of Nervous Diseases from February 24 to March 1, 2025.<\/p>\n

The Department of Nervous Diseases at KazNMU was visited by Professor M.A. Artykova and Associate Professor N.A. Nabiyeva from the Department of Pediatric Neurology. The doctors conducted seminars and lectures for second-year neurology residents at the university clinic \u201cAksai\u201d and also visited clinical bases at the 1st City Clinical Hospital and the 7th City Clinical Hospital. The educational program of our Uzbek colleagues was intensive and diverse, covering the most relevant issues in pediatric neurology, as well as the most common infectious lesions of the brain and its membranes in children.<\/p>\n

Professor M.A. Artykova paid particular attention to meningitis, emphasizing that its symptoms vary depending on the child\u2019s age\u2014whether a newborn or an older infant. Meningitis can progress very rapidly, and some children with bacterial meningitis may lose consciousness completely. Approximately one-third of newborns with bacterial meningitis experience seizures. Moreover, seizures occur in one out of five infants and young children with bacterial meningitis. The special focus on infectious brain and meninges diseases was due to the characteristic winter-spring seasonality of these conditions.<\/p>\n

Faculty academic mobility plays a significant practical role in modern education. This experience is valuable not only for students but also for faculty members, as the exchange of competencies between colleagues brings new insights and additions to the pedagogical process, undoubtedly enriching their professional skills.<\/p>\n
