On June 2, the Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov hosted a scientific and practical conference entitled «Pharmaceutical Science and Practice: Traditions, Innovations, Continuity,» dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the great scientist, pharmacist, organizer, and mentor Kenesbay Ushbaev.<\/p>\n
Ushbaev K.U. is a Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Academy of Preventive Medicine of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an outstanding scientist and organizer of healthcare, and the first Kazakh to defend a doctoral dissertation in pharmaceutical sciences during the Soviet era. Deputy of the Supreme Council of the Kazakh SSR (1990-1995).<\/p>\n
Kenesbay Ushbaevich rose from assistant to head of the Department of Organization and Economics of Pharmaceutical Affairs at the Almaty State Medical Institute (AGMI, now KazNMU named after S.D. Asfendiyarov).<\/p>\n
From 1970 to 1977, while serving in the civil service, he also headed the Department of Organization of Pharmaceutical Affairs. At the age of 30, he was appointed head of the Main Pharmacy Administration of the Kazakh SSR. During his 10 years of leadership, the Pharmacy Service of the Kazakh SSR was recognized eight times as the best in the USSR according to the results of the All-Union Socialist Competition.<\/p>\n
From 1980 to 1986, he held the position of vice-rector for academic affairs at AGMI. He then headed the Department of Chemistry, and later was sent to Shymkent, where he became director of the AGMI branch, which was subsequently transformed into an independent pharmaceutical institute, and then into a medical institute \u2013 now the South Kazakhstan State Medical Academy.<\/p>\n
In the 1990s, he once again headed the pharmacy service of Kazakhstan: he was the general director of the Republican Production Association \u201cPharmacy,\u201d then the president of the State Holding Company \u201cPharmacy.\u201d He was at the forefront of market reforms in the pharmaceutical industry.<\/p>\n
Professor Ushbaev K.U. is the author of more than 150 scientific works, including monographs, textbooks, reference books, and articles in international journals. He founded a scientific school in the field of toxicological chemistry. Under his leadership, three doctors of pharmaceutical sciences and 25 candidates of sciences were trained.<\/p>\n
For many years, he was the Chairman of the Dissertation Council of the Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov for the defense of doctoral and candidate dissertations in the specialties 150001 \u201cPharmaceutical Production Technology\u201d Pharmaceutical Production\u201c and 150002 \u201dPharmacy,» and a member of the State Pharmacopoeia Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n
Conference participants discussed the state and prospects of pharmaceutical science and practice.<\/p>\n

Kuzdenbaeva, President of the Association for the Support and Development of Pharmaceutical Activities in Kazakhstan M.A. Durmanova, Head of the Department of the Committee for Medical and Pharmaceutical Control of Almaty M.E. Mukhamedyarov, students, colleagues of Professor K.U. Ushbaev<\/p>\n
Representatives of Kazakhstani medical universities also congratulated Kenesbay Ushbaevich on his anniversary: Karaganda Medical University, Astana Medical University, South Kazakhstan Medical Academy, and the Kazakh-Russian Medical University.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
