In accordance with Order No. 3 dated February 12, 2026, issued by Vice-Rector Kalmatayeva Zh.A., and for the purpose of updating and forming the Catalog of Elective Disciplines for the 2026\u20132027 academic year, in line with the SOP \u201cFormation and Approval of the CED. Course Enrollment,\u201d as well as Clause 5, Subclause 5.18 of the \u201cAcademic Policy\u201d of S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, the Committee of Educational Programs for the educational programs \u201cGeneral Medicine\u201d \/ \u201cMedicine,\u201d together with the School of General Medicine-1, School of General Medicine-2, and the International Faculty, organized and conducted an online Elective Disciplines Fair for the 2026\u20132027 academic year from February 13 to 19, 2026.<\/p>\n
The event was held online via the Zoom Meeting platform and brought together third-year students of the School of General Medicine-1, as well as fourth- and fifth-year students of the School of General Medicine-2 and the International Faculty. The remote format ensured broad student participation and provided a convenient platform for open and constructive dialogue between department representatives and students.<\/p>\n
For third-year students, elective disciplines aimed at expanding professional competencies and fostering an interdisciplinary approach were presented. Particular interest was shown in courses on the fundamentals of diet therapy for the most common diseases and on information technologies in healthcare management. These disciplines are designed to develop modern knowledge in the prevention and correction of nutrition-related conditions, as well as to promote the mastery of digital tools and principles of effective management in the healthcare system. Students demonstrated high engagement, actively participated in discussions, and asked substantive questions.<\/p>\n
Special attention during the fair was given to the introduction and clarification of elective disciplines for fifth-year students enrolled in observational clinical research tracks. Representatives of \u043f\u0440\u043e\u0444\u0438\u043b\u044c\u043d\u044b\u0445 departments presented courses in observational clinical research within general medical practice, internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics. In their presentations, speakers thoroughly outlined the objectives of the disciplines, expected learning outcomes, course structure and content, and the specifics of organizing clinical practice. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of evidence-based medicine, the development of research skills, and the formation of clinical thinking.<\/p>\n
Students were informed about the distribution of credit hours, clinical training bases, and the format of final assessment. During the discussion, issues related to the formation of study groups, organization of work at clinical sites, and completion of practical assignments were addressed. The open meeting format enabled students to receive comprehensive answers and recommendations regarding course selection in accordance with their professional interests and future specialization.<\/p>\n
A significant portion of the event was devoted to the presentation of internship disciplines in the fields of \u201cInternal Medicine\u201d and \u201cObstetrics and Gynecology.\u201d Speakers highlighted key aspects of training, including intensive care, prevention and reduction of mortality rates, professional liability insurance for medical workers, and legal protection of their rights. Current issues in forensic medicine and legal responsibility in medical practice were also discussed.<\/p>\n
The Department of Epidemiology with a course in HIV Infection and Infection Control presented modern approaches to preventing vertical transmission of HIV infection, emphasizing the importance of timely testing, antiretroviral therapy, and comprehensive support for pregnant women to prevent mother-to-child transmission. This section concluded with a discussion of clinical anesthesiology and intensive care in obstetrics and gynecology, including monitoring of vital functions, prevention of complications, and emergency care algorithms.<\/p>\n
A separate section of the fair was dedicated to elective disciplines in the surgical field. Representatives of the Departments of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care No. 1, General Surgery and Topographic Anatomy, Forensic Medical Examination, Epidemiology with a course in HIV Infection and Infection Control, and Medical Law presented information on the content of their courses, emphasizing their importance in developing the professional competencies of future surgeons. The presentations covered patient monitoring, blood transfusion practice, modern surgical access techniques, and legal aspects of medical practice. Particular attention was given to fostering professional responsibility, clinical vigilance, and compliance with regulatory requirements in medical practice.<\/p>\n
During the online fair, students demonstrated high levels of activity, interest, and engagement. They asked meaningful questions, clarified aspects of the educational process, and showed interest in clinical training opportunities and professional development prospects. The constructive dialogue between departments and students contributed to a more informed selection of elective disciplines and strengthened academic motivation.<\/p>\n
Following the event, all presentation and informational materials from the online fair were distributed to the Schools and the International Faculty for further dissemination among students and to ensure accessibility of information during the formation of individual educational trajectories.<\/p>\n
The organization of the online Elective Disciplines Fair confirmed the importance of systematic work on updating and improving educational programs, as well as the necessity of active interaction between the university\u2019s structural divisions and students. We are confident that the selected elective disciplines will enable students and interns to deepen their professional knowledge, develop clinical and research competencies, strengthen practical skills, and successfully prepare for their future professional activities.<\/p>\n
