On June 4, 2026, Associate Professor Roza Baltabayeva Nurzhanova and Teaching Assistant Nurmukhamed Karimzhanovich Mamashayev of the Department of Nervous Diseases at Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University took part in the international roundtable discussion \u201cCurrent Issues in Psycholinguistics\u201d (\u201cPsycholinguistikany\u0148 \u00d6zekti M\u00e4seleleri\u201d), organized by the Akhmet Baitursynuly Institute of Linguistics under the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n
The event was held within the framework of the scientific and linguistic platform of the psycholinguistic section \u201cLanguage and Consciousness\u201d and brought together specialists in linguistics, psycholinguistics, education, cognitive sciences, and medicine from Kazakhstan and abroad. Participants included representatives of the Akhmet Baitursynuly Institute of Linguistics, the Higher School of Economics, Baku Eurasian University, and other academic and educational institutions. International speakers included Professor Olga Dragoy (Higher School of Economics) and representatives of the scientific community of the Republic of Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n
The roundtable focused on contemporary issues in psycholinguistics, including language consciousness, bilingualism, speech development, cognitive processes, and prospects for interdisciplinary collaboration between the humanities and medical sciences.<\/p>\n
Representing the Department of Nervous Diseases of KazNMU, N.K. Mamashayev delivered a presentation entitled \u201cAdaptation of Clinical-Linguistic Scales for the Early Detection of Cognitive Impairment in Neurological Practice.\u201d The presentation addressed the application and adaptation of neurocognitive assessment scales within Kazakhstan\u2019s multilingual environment.<\/p>\n
Particular attention was given to the prospects for cooperation between specialists in neurology, psycholinguistics, and linguistics. Currently, the Akhmet Baitursynuly Institute of Linguistics and the Department of Nervous Diseases of KazNMU are engaged in a joint project aimed at the adaptation and linguistic validation of neurocognitive assessment scales in the Kazakh language.<\/p>\n
This work is being carried out with the support of the Akhmet Baitursynuly Institute of Linguistics, the Department of Nervous Diseases of Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, and the Association of Neurologists of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The project is coordinated by Anar Muratkyzy Fazylzhan, Candidate of Philological Sciences and Director of the Institute of Linguistics; Madina Kabylkyzy Abayeva, Candidate of Philological Sciences, PhD, Associate Professor; Saule Tleubergenovna Turuspekova, MD, Head of the Department of Nervous Diseases; Roza Baltabayeva Nurzhanova, Associate Professor; Radmila Timsonovna Tsoy, MPH, PhD, Associate Professor; and Nurmukhamed Karimzhanovich Mamashayev, Teaching Assistant of the Department.<\/p>\n
The adaptation of neurocognitive assessment scales is also one of the key areas of activity of the Kazakhstan Alzheimer & Dementia Alliance (KA&DA) and the Association of Neurologists of the Republic of Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n
Participation in such events contributes to the development of interdisciplinary scientific collaboration, strengthens partnerships between the medical and humanities research communities, and supports the creation of modern diagnostic tools adapted to the linguistic and cultural characteristics of the population of Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
