KazNMU, Peking University and Shihezi University Discuss Cooperation in Global Health
On 24 August 2026, Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University (KazNMU) hosted a working meeting with delegations from Peking University and Shihezi University. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in public and global health, conducting joint research, and implementing collaborative educational projects.
The Chinese delegation included representatives of the School of Public Health and the Institute of Child and Adolescent Health of Peking University, as well as representatives of the School of Public Health of Shihezi University. KazNMU was represented by the university leadership and representatives of the Kh. Dosmukhamedov School of Public Health, School of General Medicine 2, and the Department of Public Health.
Opening the meeting, Zhanat Kozhekenova, Dean of the Kh. Dosmukhamedov School of Public Health at KazNMU, presented the university’s key educational, scientific and clinical activities, major achievements and development priorities. Particular attention was paid to the development of international cooperation and the implementation of joint projects with international partners.
Mulatibieke Keerman, Associate Professor at the School of Public Health of Shihezi University, thanked KazNMU for organizing the meeting and introduced the members of the Chinese delegation. Wang Haijun, Professor at the School of Public Health of Peking University, presented the university’s main areas of activity and ongoing projects and expressed interest in developing cooperation with KazNMU in the field of Global Health.
One of the key topics of the meeting was the possibility of establishing a joint Global Health center or base. Such a platform could support joint educational and research projects, facilitate the exchange of expertise, and contribute to long-term cooperation between KazNMU, Peking University and Shihezi University.
The participants also discussed the organization of public health systems in Kazakhstan and China, potential areas for joint scientific research, and opportunities to develop specific collaborative projects. The Chinese side expressed interest in developing international Global Health platforms that could support joint educational and research initiatives.
During the meeting, Huang Yangmu, Researcher at the School of Public Health of Peking University, presented the school’s key areas of activity, including student education and development, research projects, and activities aimed at promoting public welfare. Information was also provided on specialist training through master’s and doctoral programs.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to further explore cooperation between KazNMU, Peking University and Shihezi University in Global Health and public health, consider the establishment of a joint center, and identify priority areas for joint scientific research and collaborative projects.
