KazNMU Department of Nervous Diseases Presents Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease Diagnosis and Support at Natforlab 2026 International Scientific and Practical Forum
On September 18–19, 2026, the 8th National Forum of Laboratory Medicine Natforlab 2026 was held at the Qazmedia Media Center in Astana under the theme “Laboratory Medicine of the Future: Integration, Intelligence, Innovation.” The forum was organized by the Federation of Laboratory Medicine and provided a platform for professional exchange among laboratory diagnostics specialists, clinicians, researchers, and representatives of healthcare organizations.
The forum was attended by faculty members of the Department of Nervous Diseases at S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, Associate Professor Roza Baltabayevna Nurzhanova and Assistant Lecturer Nurmukhamed Karimzhanovich Mamashayev.
Nurmukhamed Karimzhanovich Mamashayev delivered a presentation entitled “Dementia in Focus: Diagnosis, Support, and Development of the Care System in Kazakhstan” as part of the symposium “Laboratory Diagnostics Without Borders: Innovations for Clinical Practice.” The presentation focused on the role of laboratory diagnostics in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, current approaches to biomarker analysis, patient support, and prospects for further development of the dementia care system in Kazakhstan.
The presentation of this topic at a laboratory medicine forum highlighted the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to cognitive impairment. Collaboration between neurologists and laboratory diagnostics specialists is essential for improving diagnostic approaches, developing comprehensive care for people living with dementia and their families, and conducting reliable scientific research.
Associate Professor of the Department of Nervous Diseases Roza Baltabayevna Nurzhanova actively engaged with the forum organizers and colleagues, contributing to the exchange of professional experience and the strengthening of scientific and practical collaboration. She also participated in the discussion following the presentation on dementia and in the question-and-answer session. This professional exchange contributed to the development of interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthened links between the university community and clinical practice, and promoted closer interaction between clinicians and laboratory diagnostics specialists.
The scientific program also featured Elena Alekseevna Slavko, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Professor at the Department of Internal Medicine of KazNMU, and Chief External Hepatology Specialist of the Almaty City Public Health Department. She delivered a presentation entitled “Point-of-Care Technologies in Gastroenterology: International Trends and Experience from Real-World Clinical Practice.”
The application of modern laboratory technologies was also addressed by Akmaral Meirbekovna Maimakova, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Head of the Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory at Almaty City Clinical Hospital No. 7, and Chief External Specialist in Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics of the Almaty City Public Health Department. She delivered a presentation entitled “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Interpretation of Modern Laboratory Diagnostic Parameters” and conducted the master class “Professional Dialogue: Laboratory Diagnostics in Everyday Clinical Practice. Experience with Kaz-Dia-Test Products.”
The participation of the KazNMU Department of Nervous Diseases in Natforlab 2026 helped bring dementia-related issues into the forum’s interdisciplinary agenda, highlighting the importance of collaboration between clinical and laboratory medicine in advancing care for people with cognitive impairment.
