KazNMU Students Successfully Complete International Training Program at Shenyang Pharmaceutical University (SPU)
SHENYANG, China – From June 23 to July 4, 2026, a group of students from the School of Pharmacy and the International Faculty of Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov (KazNMU) successfully completed the International Summer School hosted by Shenyang Pharmaceutical University (SPU). The program brought together participants from KazNMU as well as Uzbekistan, highlighting the regional scope and collaborative nature of this educational initiative.
During the 12-day program, students received training across three key areas: pharmaceutical sciences, natural medicinal products, and clinical pharmacy. They gained access to SPU’s core research facilities, explored the extensive collections at the university’s Herbarium, and visited the Medicinal Plant Botanical Garden.
- The program placed particular emphasis on experiential learning and practical observation:
- At the South Campus, students observed modern pharmaceutical dosage form manufacturing technologies and received an introduction to laboratory safety standards.
- As part of the natural medicinal products module, participants toured the Medicinal Plant Botanical Garden and created their own plaster casts of medicinal plant specimens as hands-on keepsakes stamped with the SPU seal and taken home as a memento of their time at the university.
- The clinical pharmacy module included an observational visit to Jinqiu Hospital, where students learned about the rational use of medicines in a modern clinical setting.
The program extended beyond the university campus. Students visited leading pharmaceutical enterprises in Benxi, where they observed the entire pharmaceutical manufacturing workflow, from production to quality control. In addition to laboratory and clinical training, participants explored the cultural heritage of Shenyang, known as the «City of Two Qing Dynasty Emperors». They visited the Shenyang Imperial Palace (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Liaoning Provincial Museum, and experienced the natural scenery of the Benxi region.
The program concluded with group project presentations, providing students with an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences in an international academic environment. On the final day, a formal closing ceremony was held at which each participant received an official certificate of completion. The summer school marked an important milestone in strengthening international academic cooperation and enabled students to immerse themselves in the research environment of one of China’s oldest pharmaceutical universities, founded in 1931.
Participation in the SPU International Summer School allowed future pharmacists from Kazakhstan to learn firsthand from one of China’s most distinguished pharmaceutical universities, widely recognized as the «Cradle of Chinese Pharmaceutical Education», while laying the foundation for continued international academic and research collaboration.
