The School of Pharmacy hosted a master class on «Quality of Medicines and Pharmacopoeial Standards»
The event was held as part of the ANaMed Forum – New Generation 2026 and the international scientific and practical conference «Digital Technologies in Pharmacy: Integration of Education, Science, and Production,» dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the School of Pharmacy.
On May 19, 2026, the master class took place at the S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University. It was delivered by invited expert Ardak Urinbasarovna Tulegenova, Head of the Department of the State Pharmacopoeia (SPh) of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Pharmacopoeia of the Eurasian Economic Union at the National Center for Expertise of Medicines and Medical Devices (under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan). Dr. Tulegenova is also the Chair of the EAEU Pharmacopoeial Committee, Editor-in-Chief of the State Pharmacopoeia of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor, and an Honorary Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The program focused on the role of the pharmacopoeia as a fundamental regulatory document governing the quality of medicines during the registration, examination, and marketing authorization stages. Participants examined the operating mechanisms of the State Pharmacopoeia of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Pharmacopoeia of the EAEU in detail, along with the processes for harmonizing them with leading global standards.
During the master class, various aspects of applying pharmacopoeial requirements to pharmaceutical inspections were explored. Participants learned about the principles of analytical method transfer between laboratories, stability assessment criteria, and risk-based quality control strategies. The speaker emphasized that achieving «pharmacopoeial quality» requires strict adherence to established standards, and any deviations must be rigorously justified and validated.
The event brought together a broad professional audience. Alongside faculty, doctoral candidates, master’s students, and undergraduates from S.D. Asfendiyarov KazNMU, the master class saw active participation from representatives of pharmaceutical companies (Viva Pharm LLP, FitOleum LLP, etc.), delegates from other universities and research institutes (Bandung Institute of Technology, Medical University of Lublin, Astana Medical University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction, etc.), and students from Astana Medical University undergoing professional internships.
Events of this format help enhance the competencies of specialists, strengthen interdepartmental cooperation, and foster a deeper understanding of the current regulatory requirements necessary to ensure the quality and safety of domestic pharmaceutical products.
