Synergy of Science and Practice: KazNMU Delegation’s Participation in the Days of Kazakhstani Medicine in Tajikistan Takes Children’s Healthcare to a New Level
DUSHANBE, REPUBLIC OF TAJIKISTAN – 25–27 AUGUST 2026. A delegation from Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University (KazNMU) took part in the Days of Kazakhstani Medicine held in Dushanbe. The visit became a vivid example of putting the synergy of science and practice into action in the development of bilateral relations, opening new prospects for scientific and practical cooperation and academic exchange between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. The delegation included the University’s leading specialists:
- Isamdun Kaudunovich Kharamov – Candidate of Medical Sciences, paediatric orthopaedic trauma surgeon of the highest qualification category, Head of the Orthopaedics Department at the Aksai University Clinic;
- Roza Zhakanovna Seissebayeva – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of the Department of Outpatient and Polyclinic Paediatrics;
- Zhanar Zhenisovna Nurgaliyeva – Candidate of Medical Sciences, Professor at the Department of Outpatient and Polyclinic Paediatrics;
- Mira Zekenovna Azhakhmetova – Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Outpatient and Polyclinic Paediatrics.
The participation of KazNMU specialists introduced significant innovations into the medical cooperation programme between the two countries, moving from theoretical discussion to the direct transfer of advanced medical technologies and clinical practices at the Shifobakhsh National Medical Centre, the Istiklol Medical Complex and Health Centre No. 15. Patient consultations were conducted, while complex clinical cases and modern paediatric and surgical approaches to childhood diseases were discussed in detail.
KazNMU specialists provided extensive clinical, consultative and methodological assistance to healthcare professionals and the academic staff of Avicenna Tajik State Medical University in the following areas:
- High-technology surgery in paediatric orthopaedics.
Kazakhstani specialists demonstrated the practical application of highly complex methods for the surgical correction of spinal deformities in children. Dr I.K. Kharamov presented the unique experience of the Aksai University Clinic in the surgical treatment of scoliosis.
Joint demonstration surgeries were performed, including highly complex foot procedures and the surgical treatment of scoliosis in children, together with Dr Seidali Saparaliyevich Abdaliyev from the Academician N.D. Batpenov National Scientific Centre for Traumatology and Orthopaedics (Astana).
- Advanced approaches to treating severe somatic conditions.
Specialists from the Department of Outpatient and Polyclinic Paediatrics introduced modern protocols for diagnosing and treating life-threatening and chronic diseases in children, including cystic fibrosis, acute bronchiolitis, cardiac conditions, type 1 diabetes mellitus, obesity and bronchial asthma.
- Early intervention, emergency care and prevention system.
A particularly important innovation was the training provided to Tajik colleagues in the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI), breastfeeding counselling, early intervention methods, RMRR, the management of newborns with jaundice, and algorithms for providing emergency care to children at the pre-hospital stage. Practical assistance was provided in paediatric pulmonology, allergology, endocrinology and cardiology.
- Differentiated approaches to autism spectrum disorders in children.
Innovative educational programmes on the diagnosis and management of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
The programme of the KazNMU delegation’s visit was highly intensive and included master classes, seminars, clinical case reviews and patient consultations.
Thus, the joint surgeries and clinical case reviews laid a solid foundation for technology transfer and the introduction of modern standards for diagnosing and treating childhood conditions, their management at the primary healthcare level, and disease prevention. Physicians in Tajikistan gained access to advanced methods and the practical experience of staff from the Aksai University Clinic and the KazNMU School of Paediatrics.
A key outcome of the visit by the delegation of Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University was the signing of a memorandum between the leading universities of Kazakhstan and Tajikistan – KazNMU and Avicenna Tajik State Medical University.
The participation of the University’s staff in the Days of Kazakhstani Medicine in Tajikistan established a reliable foundation for the further development of academic, scientific and practical ties between the medical organisations of Kazakhstan and Tajikistan in paediatrics, primary healthcare, paediatric orthopaedics and traumatology.
KazNMU once again confirmed its status as a flagship of medical education and science in Kazakhstan, successfully scaling its best practices internationally.
