“Asfendiyarov Readings”
On October 14, 2026, the annual international scientific and practical conference entitled “S.D. Asfendiyarov – the First Rector and Founder of KazNMU” was held at S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University. The conference brought together scholars from foreign universities, as well as faculty members and students of our university.
The conference was opened with welcoming remarks by U.M. Datkhayev, Vice-Rector of our university, and N.Zh. Jardemaliyeva, Head of the Department.
K.V. Khramova, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor and Head of the Department of Philosophy at Bashkir State Medical University in Ufa, Russia, also delivered welcoming remarks.
Our international colleagues presented interesting papers. A.S. Zubairova-Valeeva, Candidate of Philosophy and Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy at Bashkir State Medical University in Ufa, Russia, delivered a paper entitled “The Socio-Political Activities of S.D. Asfendiyarov and Historical and Cultural Parallels in the Development of Medical Education in Bashkortostan and Kazakhstan.” An insightful presentation entitled “The Purpose of Life Is Life” was delivered by our colleague from Uzbekistan, Nargiza Akmalovna Umirzakova, Associate Professor and PhD at the Department of Social Sciences, Profi University, Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The students’ presentations highlighted the life and work of S.D. Asfendiyarov, his formative years and personal development while studying at the Military Medical Academy in St. Petersburg, as well as his work as a physician during his years in wartime captivity. Other presentations focused on his active involvement in combating epidemics and his contribution to the development of the regional healthcare system. One of the presentations was devoted to his wife, Rabiga Lapina, highlighting her support for S.D. Asfendiyarov. The presentation also addressed ALZHIR, the Akmola Camp for Wives of Traitors to the Motherland.
Overall, the conference featured a range of interesting and informative presentations. The third annual international conference was successfully held. We would like to thank all participants for their valuable contributions.
