University of Michigan Professor Elizabeth King to Deliver a Guest Lecture at KazNMU
The Department of Epidemiology with Courses in HIV Infection and IC invites the faculty, master’s students, and doctoral students to attend a lecture by Professor Elizabeth King, PhD, Associate Professor at the University of Michigan (USA) and Director of the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies. The lecture topic is “Bridging Silos in HIV Care for Pregnant Women: Applying Qualitative Methods in Implementation Science”.
Professor King is a global public health specialist with research experience in Kazakhstan, Russia, Serbia, Ethiopia, Ukraine, and Uganda. Her research interests include women’s health, gender-equitable access to preventive and healthcare services, and inequalities in access to HIV-related care and treatment.
In her research, Professor King examines how gender norms, stigma, and discrimination affect access to healthcare services among different population groups and identifies opportunities to address existing barriers. She places particular emphasis on advancing a human rights-based approach to HIV testing and treatment policies, exploring the relationship between globalization and health, and assessing the impact of international strategies and funding mechanisms on public health, particularly in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
The lecture will take place on October 29, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in Lecture Room №4, (Academic Building №7).
