KazNMU and Chung-Ang University deepen strategic partnership during high-level visit from South Korea
A high-ranking delegation from Chung-Ang University (Republic of Korea) visited the Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov on 24 November 2025, marking a significant step in strengthening academic and scientific cooperation between the two institutions.
The delegation, led by Dr Sang-Gyu Park, President of Chung-Ang University, included senior university officials as well as representatives of Hyundae Hospital, a key partner in medical innovation and infrastructure development. The visit focused on expanding collaboration in medical education, research and advanced healthcare technologies.
During their tour of KazNMU’s research and teaching facilities, the guests were introduced to the university’s laboratory capabilities, digital infrastructure and ongoing scientific projects. The delegation noted the potential for joint academic initiatives, including shared research programmes, student mobility, and collaborative approaches to clinical training.
Hyundae Hospital representatives also outlined plans for the construction of a modern multi-specialty hospital in Almaty, developed in partnership with the Shin-Line company. Construction is expected to begin in 2026. The project aims to enhance the region’s medical infrastructure and serve as a base for future joint research in high-tech medicine.
A key moment of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities. The agreement paves the way for broader cooperation, with particular emphasis on the integration of artificial intelligence in medicine. Dr Park proposed holding a joint international conference and a series of seminars on AI in 2026, alongside KazNMU’s participation in a major AI-driven research project.
In the afternoon, the Korean delegation visited two of Kazakhstan’s leading clinical institutions — the Research Institute of Cardiology and Internal Diseases and the Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology — where they were briefed on innovative diagnostic methods, treatment technologies and current scientific achievements.
The visit is viewed as an important milestone in strengthening ties between Kazakhstan and South Korea in the fields of medical education, research and healthcare innovation. The newly signed MoU is expected to expand academic opportunities, support the creation of joint research platforms and enhance the training of future medical professionals in both countries.
