Scientific and Practical Seminar “Spinal Enthesopathies: A New Perspective on Back Pain” held in Almaty
On September 28, 2026, a scientific and practical seminar entitled “Spinal Enthesopathies: A New Perspective on Back Pain” was held in Almaty with the support of the Department of Nervous Diseases of Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University and the Neurologists Association of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The event was dedicated to the modern understanding of pain syndromes and new approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of back pain.
Enthesopathies are pathological changes occurring at the sites where tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissue structures attach to bones. In the spine, such changes may contribute to the development or persistence of back pain and require careful clinical assessment and differential diagnosis.
The seminar was moderated by Yerkyn Smagulovich Nurguzhayev, MD, Professor of the Department of Nervous Diseases at Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University and President of the Neurologists Association of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The invited speaker was Dmitry Anatolyevich Iskra, MD, Professor of the Department of Nervous Diseases at the S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation and President of the Northwestern Pain Society.
During the meeting, participants discussed current concepts of spinal enthesopathies, mechanisms of pain development, clinical diagnostic features, and contemporary approaches to the management of patients with pain syndromes.
A particularly important aspect of the event was its educational format: a live broadcast on YouTube enabled healthcare professionals from all regions of Kazakhstan to participate, providing broad access to up-to-date scientific information and opportunities for professional exchange.
The seminar served as another platform for the implementation of modern approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of back pain and for the advancement of continuing medical education for physicians.
