KazNMU Enters the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for the First Time
Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University has entered the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027 for the first time, placing in the 1201–1400 band.
A total of 10 universities from Kazakhstan were included in the global ranking. Among the Kazakhstani institutions represented, KazNMU achieved the second-highest position after Nazarbayev University. KazNMU also became the first medical university in Central Asia to be included in this prestigious global ranking.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is one of the world’s most authoritative international rankings of higher education institutions. It assesses universities across their core areas of activity, including the quality of the teaching and research environment, academic and research reputation, research output, citations and research impact, international collaboration, industry engagement, and contribution to innovation.
The ranking takes into account a university’s research performance, the quality and relevance of its research, researchers’ participation in international projects, the proportion of international students and academic staff, the development of international research partnerships and co-authorship, and the practical application of research outcomes.
KazNMU’s inclusion in the THE World University Rankings marks a historic milestone and confirms the University’s strengthening position in the global higher education and research landscape. This achievement reflects the University’s systematic efforts to enhance the quality of medical education, develop its research capacity, support researchers, and expand international cooperation.
Becoming the first medical university in Central Asia to enter this ranking is of particular significance not only to KazNMU but also to the region’s medical education system as a whole. This achievement demonstrates the growing international competitiveness of medical education and research in Kazakhstan.
