Students from KazNMU – winners and prize-winners of the 11th All-russian organic chemistry olympiad
The S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National University has maintained academic ties with leading medical and pharmaceutical universities in neighbouring and more distant foreign countries for many years. A special place among our partners is held by our collaboration with the A.P. Nelyubin Institute of Pharmacy, part of Sechenov University (formerly the First Moscow State University named after I.M. Sechenov, Moscow). Sechenov University is an educational and research complex dedicated to the professional training, retraining and further training of specialists with medical and pharmacological qualifications, as well as highly qualified academic and teaching staff. The university also conducts scientific research and provides specialist medical care to the public.
The university heads the educational and methodological association of medical and pharmaceutical universities in Russia. The university comprises 17 institutes and a Biomedical Science and Technology Park. The Institute of Pharmacy integrates the traditions of classical pharmaceutical education with new opportunities in scientific and educational activities and partner organisations, fostering collaboration between fundamental science and the pharmaceutical industry.
Joint educational projects between S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University and partners at Sechenov University, research placements, participation in academic competitions and other forms of cooperation have become a tradition.
The School of Pharmacy at S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University has established a long-standing system for training talented students. Lecturers not only impart fundamental knowledge, but also teach students to think outside the box, solve complex competition problems and apply theory in practice. It is precisely this approach that enables the university to produce competitive specialists capable of representing the university with distinction at prestigious academic competitions.
Every year, the Department of Chemistry holds a rigorous competitive selection process among students studying the specialisations ‘Pharmaceutical Production Technology’ and ‘Pharmacy’ to participate in the organic chemistry Olympiad. The best students earn the right to represent the university at Olympiads and competitions held in Russia. This year, 12 students took part in the organic chemistry competition, from whom the top three were selected.
The university consistently supports participation in the in-person stages of prestigious competitions. This allows students to immerse themselves in an academic environment, meet future colleagues from other universities and test their abilities in a fair intellectual contest.
On 29 May 2026, at the 11th All-Russian Olympiad in Organic Chemistry with international participation (A.P. Nelyubin Institute of Pharmacy, Moscow), our students achieved brilliant results:
- Naila Tulebaeva (2nd year, TFP24-023) – winner’s certificate;
- Dias Bekbatyrov (3rd year, TFP23-037) – prize winner’s certificate;
- Nurzhan Bakhytov (2nd year, TFP24-024) – prize winner’s certificate.
The students taking part in the competition, representing various regions of Kazakhstan, had excelled at school and university. Diaz graduated from Secondary School No. 24 in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Nailya from Lyceum No. 8 for gifted children in Pavlodar, and Nurzhan from Secondary School No. 3 in the town of Talgar, Almaty Region.
Associate Professor D.T. Balpanova of the Department of Chemistry and Lecturer G.A. Kagazbekova played an active role in preparing the winners and prize-winners of the Olympiad. Overall management of the selection process and support for student initiatives were provided by staff from the Dean’s Office of the School of Pharmacy, who oversaw the students’ preparation for the Olympiad, handled organisational matters and created all the conditions necessary for our students’ successful performance.
We congratulate the winners and their mentors on their success at the Olympiad, which has confirmed the high standard of chemistry education at S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University. We look forward to further victories from our students!
