Call for applications: 2024 Joint Research Program for the Shenzhen-Almaty Joint Laboratory for Frontiers of Medical Science (salFMS)
In order to advance the quality of life and health sciences research in China and Kazakhstan, Shenzhen University Medical School (SZUMS) and National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NAS RK) have agreed to cooperate toward establishing and growing the Shenzhen-Almaty Joint Laboratory for Frontiers of Medical Science (salFMS) with one branch in NAS RK, Almaty and another in SZU, Shenzhen. To foster joint research among PIs from both countries, SZUMS is initiating the 2024 Joint Research Program for salFMS and thus is calling for applications. During this round of call-for applications, four research grants with funding strength of RMB 750,000 (equivalent to US$ 100,000) each will be given out and the funding period will start from October 1st, 2024 to September 30th, 2026.
WHO CAN APPLY?
The PI shall be an excellent scholar (at assistant professor level or above) who work in well-known institutions or universities in Kazakhstan, while the co-PI shall be a well-established faculty member of SZUMS. The research strength between PI and co-PI shall be complimentary.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Conduct cooperative research at SZUMS for at least 1 year, however, NOT more than 2 years.
The proposed research shall fit in the mega proposal, Multi-target design of new drug candidates based on phyto-raw materials. The specific research content shall be closely related to the followings: 1) extraction, isolation, and chemically characterization of natural compounds from the Kazakhstan medicinal plants; 2) screen for antitumor compounds and chemical optimization of lead compounds; 3) pre-clinical study of the identified antitumor lead compounds.
WHAT DO WE OFFER?
The PI will receive a stipend of RMB 6,250 per month when he/she works in SZUMUS with full research support.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
- An applicant should identify an appropriate faculty member of SZUMS before application.
- A complete proposal signed by both PI and co-PI with the seal of NAS RK shall be submitted to Ms. Ruoran Li at [email protected] before August 15th, 2024.
- The funding decision will be made before September 15th, 2024.
