Results of the International Subject Olympiad “Healthy Nutrition — the Foundation of a Healthy Nation,” organized by the Department of Nutrition named after Academician T. Sharmanov
The international subject Olympiad was organized in honor of World Health Day, Sustainable Development Goal No. 3, and Science Day. Students from Tashkent State Medical University (Uzbekistan), the International Higher School of Medicine (Kyrgyzstan), West Kazakhstan Medical University named after M. Ospanov, Astana Medical University, Karaganda Medical University, K. Sagadiyev International Business University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University participated in the Olympiad. In total, 105 students took part, of whom 52 were selected to advance to the final III stage — the defense of research projects, held on April 15, 2026, at the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition.
At the opening ceremony, welcoming speeches were delivered by Z.A. Kozhekenova, Dean of the Kh. Dosmukhamedov School of Public Health at KazNMU; A.B. Salkhanova, Vice President of the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition; and M.S. Kainarbaeva, Head of the Department of Nutrition named after Academician T. Sharmanov, who wished the participants success.
Within the framework of the international subject Olympiad, participants attended a lecture by Almaz Sharman, President of the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition, on current issues in nutrition and the future of artificial intelligence in this field. A film about the life path of Academician T. Sharmanov, who made a significant contribution to global healthcare, was also shown, and participants were introduced to the museum reflecting his historically significant works. In addition, nationally recognized technologist experts from the Almaty State Business College shared methods of preparing healthy food and conducted a master class.
The results of the III stage were summarized by the members of the Scientific Committee of the Kh. Dosmukhamedov School of Public Health at KazNMU during the jury meeting following the project defenses held from April 15 to 17, 2026. The winners of the Olympiad were awarded first, second, and third degree diplomas from S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, as well as nominations including: “Best Scientific Project,” “Best Innovative Idea,” “Best Teamwork,” “Practical Significance of the Project,” “Most Creative Participant,” “Professional Approach,” “Project with the Best Scientific Idea,” “Best Presentation,” “Most Relevant Research,” and “Best Startup.” In addition, letters of appreciation were presented to scientific supervisors and administrative leaders, and each participant received gifts from the supporting companies “Herbalife” and “Samal Su.”
Participants of the Olympiad expressed their gratitude to the organizing committee led by A.N. Kozhakhmetova and A.K. Beisbekova for the high level of organization at every stage, noting that during the Olympiad they developed practical skills and scientific competencies necessary for strengthening public health and building the foundation of a healthy nation.
