8th International Scientific and Practical Conference «The Formation and Prospects for the Development of the Pharmacy Research School: Intergenerational Continuity», Dedicated to the Memory of Professor R.D. Dilbarkhanov
On 30 June, the 8th International Scientific and Practical Conference ‘The Formation and Prospects for the Development of the Scientific School of Pharmacy: Continuity Across Generations’, dedicated to the memory of Professor R.D. Dilbarkhanov, took place. The conference was organised by the School of Pharmacy at the S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University (KazNMU).
Rakhymzhan Dilbarkhanovich Dilbarkhanov – Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a scientist and educator who made a significant contribution to the development of pharmacy. Since 1974, his professional career has been linked to the Faculty of Pharmacy (now the School of Pharmacy) at Kazakhstan’s largest medical university. R. Dilbarkhanov rose through the ranks at S.D. Asfendiyarov KazNMU from departmental assistant to Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy. For many years, he headed the Department of Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms and served as Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy.
R.D. Dilbarkhanov made a significant contribution to the training of scientific and teaching staff. His period in charge is rightly regarded as one of the most productive in the history of the Faculty of Pharmacy. In an effort to ensure the continuous development of domestic science, he initiated the establishment of the Dissertation Council for the defence of candidate and doctoral theses and personally chaired it.
Under his academic supervision, a host of highly qualified specialists were trained: 12 Doctors and 33 Candidates of Pharmaceutical Sciences, as well as Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) and Masters of Pharmacy. Among his distinguished students were N. A. Lyapunov, M. N. Ashirmatova, D. K. Kiyashev, B. A. Sagyndykova, R. M. Abdullabekova, S. D. Yusufi, U. M. Datkhaev, Z. B. Sakipova, G. O. Ustenova, L. M. Sikhymbaeva, K. K. Kozhanova, E. N. Kapsalyamova, Sh. S. Begaliev, Ibadullaeva, R. B. Ayupova, U. S. Alimova, S. E. Mombekov and others. Many of them work at the School of Pharmacy, making a significant contribution to the training of qualified pharmaceutical professionals.
Professor R. D. Dilbarkhanov’s in-depth knowledge and wealth of experience were sought after at the very highest levels of government. Over the years, he successfully served as an expert for the Ministry of Health of the USSR in the field of ‘Pharmacy’, as chair of the Pharmacological and Pharmaceutical Committees of the Ministry of Health of the Kazakh SSR, and later as an expert at the Pharmacopoeia Centre of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He played an active role in a historically significant event — the creation of the first edition of the State Pharmacopoeia of independent Kazakhstan. In memory of this outstanding scientist and educator, the School of Pharmacy at KazNMU holds annual scientific and practical conferences with international participation.
The aim of the conference is to bring together academics, specialists and early-career researchers in the field of pharmacy to discuss current issues relating to the development of academic schools, to exchange experience and knowledge, and to preserve and pass on academic traditions to future generations. Particular attention is paid to honouring the memory of Professor R. Dilbarkhanov as an outstanding scientist and educator, whose legacy continues to inspire the current generation of pharmacists.
The conference format involves the exchange of experiences and views on the development of social partnership as a factor in improving the quality of education, and the discussion of avenues and prospects for collaboration with research centres, pharmaceutical enterprises and companies – in a hybrid (in-person and online) format.
