Seminar “Climate Change and Health: Challenges and Adaptation Strategies within the SDGs”
On April 24, 2026, a scientific and practical seminar titled
“Climate Change and Health: Challenges and Adaptation Strategies within the SDGs” was held at Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, at the School of Public Health named after Kh. Dosmukhamedov.
The event was organized by the Department of Public Health, the Department of Nutrition named after Academician T. Sharmanov, and the Department of Health Policy and Management.
The seminar was moderated by Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Public Health, Gulshat A. Begimbetova.
Welcoming remarks were delivered by distinguished guests:
- Nurgul M. Bakirova – Environmental Protection Specialist of the Nauryzbay District, Almaty;
- Nurzhanat D. Shakirova – PhD, Acting Associate Professor, Department of Geography and Ecology, Abai KazNPU;
- Nurzhan T. Mukashev – MD, PhD, MHSA, Assistant Professor, Director of the Center for Policy, Management and Health, SDU University;
- Ernar A. Absalaymov – Leading Specialist of the Environmental Protection Service of Almaty.
During the seminar, invited guests delivered presentations addressing current issues of climate change and its impact on the environment and human health. Faculty members, as well as master’s and undergraduate students, also presented scientific reports focused on the impact of climate change on population health.
The presentations covered a wide range of topics, including:
- the impact of climate change on food systems, nutrition quality, and food security;
- the impact of climate change on the incidence of infectious diseases;
- the effects of climatic factors on maternal and child health;
- the prevalence of chronic and dental diseases under climate change conditions;
- the influence of environmental factors (temperature, humidity, air pollution) on health indicators.
Special attention was paid to the impact of climate change on public health, including the комплексное влияние environmental factors on various aspects of human life.
At the conclusion of the seminar, participants emphasized the relevance of the presented reports, the active involvement of students, and the importance of further research on the impact of climate change on public health and quality of life.
